The inability to sell an old oil truck when he was in the used car and repair business launched William E. Maloney into a career in the home heating industry. In 1934 Mr. Maloney was commisioned to sell an ancient truck at the height of the depression. When he couldn't sell the truck, Bill told his close friend, "I think I'll go in to the oil business." With that statement Arlex Oil was founded. The truck was painted cream and green, the same colors used on Arlex trucks today, because that was the only colors of paint that were around the shop. Sixty years later Arlex still sells oil to its customers. Through war, recession, and fuel crisis alike Arlex Oil Corporation has served the people of Lexington and surrounding communities with undying dedication and thorough expertise in home heating. Still owned by the Maloney family the company is now in its third generation and still going strong.
